American virtue, free speech and renewal

As America’s religion goes, so goes the country.

A sign o’ the times – and what holiday, I ask, is “Spring?” That used to be a SEASON! How offensive is GOOD FRIDAY and to WHOM?!

As I lament the quickly deteriorating state of America I also lament the state of the souls of her citizens.  America has been rotting from the inside and now the facade is beginning to crumble.  Our leaders are corrupt, moral absolutes have been diluted or destroyed and ours has become a culture of decadence and selfishness.

President Obama recently said America is not a Christian nation. Apparently it’s OK and wonderful to have oppressive Islamic countries, but a Christian country is undesirable. After I got over my initial anger, I’m afraid I have to agree with him at this point in time.  He’s supposedly a believer, and that’s between him and God, but he and his fellow ideologues have done all they can to destroy the religious foundation of America.

Gay rights, abortion of any kind, taking prayer out of schools, Christmas decorations from public places – all of these have been implemented by those who are in charge right now. The Left’s near total control of education over the last 40 years has seen to it that references to the Founding Fathers, religious or otherwise, are skimmed over or avoided completely.

How I long for a return of those statesmen, instruments of Divine Providence used to create this the most free and prosperous land in the history of man, to manifest themselves to this current generation.  We’re treated to pandering, lies, feigned support for the military, and petty bickering.

John Adams, in October 1798, said the following and it is shows the wisdom given to him and his contemporaries when the building blocks were being laid almost 300 years ago.
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

George Washington in 1792 (emphasis mine)
“I’m sure there never was a people, who had more reason to acknowledge a divine interposition in their affairs, than those of the United States; and I should be pained to believe, that they have forgotten that agency, which was so often manifested during our revolution, or that they failed to consider the omnipotence of that God, who is alone able to protect them.”

The enemies of freedom, inside and outside our borders, have been chipping away at the foundations since they were created, but the fabric has been held together by the Judeo-Christian ethic, or at the very least the perceived notion of a higher power and the benefits of living a good life.  Respect for life and property have their roots in every major religion, but it is a core of the Christian faith.  The first four of the Ten Commandments pertain to our relationship wih the Holy God.  The remaining six deal with our relationships with each other.  A quick review of these six and their attending assaults I hope will give pause to those who think a return to our Constitution can be accomplished without a return to our faith.

Fifth Commandment – Honor your Mother and Father
Society is telling our kids to have sex as often and anywhere they like, certainly against the desires of parents.  The UN Rights of the Child proposal will be a huge detriment to our responsibilty to raise our children. Government (sometimes called public schools) indoctrinate our children in values contrary to those taught at home.

Sixth Commandment – Thou shalt not murder

Sadly, murder is a common occurrence in lower income neighborhoods , but isn’t  restricted only to those neighborhoods.   The average age of the perpetrator is younger than ever. News reports of 14 year olds killing other human beings doesn’t shock the way it used to.  Often a criminal that commits murder gets less time than drug dealers, large-scale polluters or animal abusers.
The biggest and most damning trespass of the 6th Commandment is the horror of the killing of the unborn – abortion.  Under the auspices of “choice” or “health/life of the mother,”  we’ve entrenched the  murder of human beings into an acceptable activity.  Even most who abhor it will not stand up and speak for fear of being castigated.  So by our “sin of silence” this practice has moved to the point of allowing babies born after botched abortions to be left to die a cold, lonely death in a dark room off to the side.  If these “unwanted” babies were left on a doorstep somewhere I guarantee they’d be snatched up and taken care of by somebody, with media reports of how a community came together to find it a loving home, but since this occurs in a nearly empty room out of public view it’s OK to extinguish a life breathed by God Himself.

Seventh Commandment – Thou shalt not commit adultery
God considers ANY sex outside of marriage to be adultery. Hetero or homosexual. Watched any primetime network TV over the last 20 years or more? Enough said.

Eighth Commandment – Thou shalt not steal

Our government, through legislative fiat, has been stealing from the producers and giving it to the non-producers. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it isn’t stealing.

Ninth Commandment – Thou shalt not bear false witness (lie)
Terms like ‘disingenuous’ have become the new ‘liar’ but softens it to an acceptable tenor.  Our elected leaders have perfected the art of bearing false witness.

Tenth Commandment – Thou shalt not covet (desire to take from another) your neighbors wife, property, etc. (abridged for space)

Where do you start with this one?  Much can be referred back to the Eighth Commandment above.  The immoral theft and mismanagement by investment banking has caused the loss of trillions of dollars in our portfolios, yet it seems those running the show have made out just fine.  Sure, their portfolios presumably have taken a hit, too but when your making tens of millions of dollars running a company into risky investments which receive bailouts from your powerful friends in DC, it’s not so bad.
The whole Socialist mentality our country now seems to have embraced is built upon this premise.

Sociopsychologist Warren Benton said in Temporary Society, “In order to effect rapid change, one must mount a vigorous attack on the family, lest the traditions of the present generations be preserved.”  Another noted sociopsychologist, James Coleman, was even more straight-forward. He said, “If  ‘equality of opportunity’ (read socialism’) is to become part of the American Dream, the traditional family must be weakened.”  Ominous statements, indeed, and common in educational institutions, especially higher education.  It explains why so many college students come out so far removed from their values going in.

Our public education system has done a thorough job of indoctrinating our children for decades, but we can’t hold ourselves blameless if we failed to correct those teachings by reinforcing our values at home or, better yet, homeschooling them – a choice my wife and I made before our children were born.  I can talk the talk and walk the walk.  My wife is an RN and we’ve sacrificed close to a half-million dollars so far for our decision and, frankly, have no regrets.

Moral relativism is a sinister mindset that leads to pain and confusion for our kids.  They’re told that all lifestyles are equal.  They’re told that we all have our own path to heaven and no one is more right than others.  They’ve been taught that corporal punishment should be impuned or even prosecuted.   They’ve been taught that their self-esteem should be caressed at all costs.  The only way to reconcile all this in their developing value-system is by diluting the messages of the Bible and the values many have grown up with.  Our education system and entertainment industry pound on those values every day.  These kids grow up and raise children that have never known discipline, have few boundaries and no truths to anchor themselves to.  What a scary place to be!

To get a glimpse of America a decade or two from now just look at England and France.  They have given up religion en masse, and their societies are under assault from Islam. Experts are projecting both to be Islamic countries within a couple decades.  Some estimates put it as early as 2030, just 20 years from now.  How could that be, you may ask?  Pure and simple, Westerners have embraced smaller families and the “choice” of killing tens of millions of potential Westerners while Muslims are having larger families for the sake of growing their populations. Our mothers have left the home in pursuit of careers and “things,” leaving insufficient time to grow and nurture large families.

America, if we really want to get back to the country we were with the freedoms that have been the envy of the world, we need to get back the spiritual component as well as the political.  We need to say, “no” to to sports on Sunday mornings.  We need to teach the important things, like the struggles inherent with freedom and responsibility. We need to teach that what we do in private is in full view of God. If we don’t go to church regularly and seek God’s will for our lives, ask for forgiveness for our sins of commission as well omission by allowing the horrible things that have become commonplace and give Him his rightful place as the Divine Creator, our spiral into decadence will continue.

Romans 13:3-6 says about Godly rulers-

“[They] are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.”

In this upside-down world where evil is called good and good evil, it doesn’t appear that what we currently have are Godly rulers.  Perhaps we get what we deserve.

God, have mercy on us.

Socialism fails and milton friedman was right. His DVD series is wonderful and shows exactly why 2.0 unemployment, under socialism, is still miserable.

The economy is the exchange of goods and services. And the economy accelerates when people really want to exchange goods and services. When you have rewards to creating something that others want, as in capitalism, you get motive to innovate new products through creativity and technology. If you have a bunch of people doing this, you exchange these goods and services and create jobs and wealth.

Under socialism, people stay complacent in their situation. there is relatively any motivation to create products that other people want, and this creates a domino effect. (you can motivate others to produce cool products if they want other peoples’ cool products). however, high taxes eliminates the motivation for many. And for this reason, most of the good products come out of capitalists countries.

There is not a set amount of wealth in this world. It can be created and people can join in by creating something that people want. Obama’s policies seek to make everyone equal by stifling competition and innovation — trickle up poverty.

So everyone is equal financially, and unemployment is very low — but everyone is just above poverty. Cuba has low unemployment, but there are no mansions and nothing to shoot for.

Furthermore, people stop progressing. People stop learning from failures.

  2. Thanks, Linda, and you’re right, but your comment fits very well with a post from a day or two ago here… Also, would you agree that the label’progressive,’ the proponents of socialism, is a misnomer? They seem to be more into setting the clock back to the days of serfdom and the glorious days before we had cars and electricity and weren’t killing the Earth. Thanks for visiting! ff

You might find the book, America Alone, by Mark Sty interesting. He deals with population demographics and shows the decline of most western nations since it became fashionable to have 1 “designer” baby when you’re in your 40’s.

Also, you reference the John Adams’ quote as 1735. The Constitution wasn’t yet written then, and it was the year he was born (he may be brilliant, but not THAT brilliant!), so you may have a typo. 😉

oops, the book is America Alone by Mark Steyn. Forgot his last name 😛

  5. You are right, dave. Good catch. That was his birth year. I have edited the post.
