American virtue, free speech and renewal

No lobbyists in the Obama Administration, unless he wants one.

Politico.com’s Jonathan Martin now knows why Mr. Obama wasn’t asked tough questions on the campaign trail.  It doesn’t fit with his image.  And we know it’s all about the image.

Apparently Mr. Obama was visiting those that sit around in the media work area waiting for something to report on.  A good will gesture to the bottom-dwellers. When he got the chance, Mr. Martin asked Obama about his choosing a lobbyist, against his statements on the campaign trail, to be in his cabinet.  Didn’t sit very well with The Prez.

I’m going to blow this all out of proportion, but hey, it’s a telling story. And I’m sure there’s a good deal of truth to it.

Excerpt from Fox  News:

According to reports, when the Politico’s Jonathan Martin asked the president about his nominee for deputy secretary of defense, William Lynn, Obama refused to answer, saying he was not there to take questions.

“I came down here to visit. I didn’t come down here — this is what happens. I can’t end up visiting you guys and shaking hands if I am going to grilled every time I come down here,” the president said.

In other words, your job is to work with me on the change we need to bring to America, not to question how I get it done.

Pressed further by the Politico reporter about his Pentagon nominee, Obama turned more serious, putting his hand on the reporter’s shoulder and staring him in the eye.

“All right, come on” he said, with obvious irritation in his voice. “We will be having a press conference, at which time you can feel free to [ask] questions. Right now, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to you guys — that’s all I was trying to do,” Politico.com reported.

The situation came to a close when a cameraman in the room interrupted, declaring: “I’d like to say it one more time: ‘Mr. President.'”

Ahh, that’s more like it.  Martin would do well to learn that flattery is the rule for Democrats if you’re to survive in Washington.  Or he may just be looking in from the outside.

The nominee in question, William Lynn, is a former lobbyist for defense contractor Raytheon, a pick Obama made in contradiction to his much-heralded anti-lobbying rules.

Those media watchdogs, the hounds of truth, guardians of the Republic haven’t had much to say on this.  It’s just a little mistake.  He probably wasn’t notified that Mr. Lynn was a lobbyist.  Heads will roll, I’m sure.  He’ll allow this to proceed THIS TIME, but will be much more careful that it doesn’t happen again.
